Madeleine Clark - Miss Sacramento County's Outstanding Teen 2007
Since earning the title of Miss Sacramento's Outstanding Teen 2007, I graduated high school and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Upon moving here, I continued my platform of helping underprivileged children by gathering up some college buddies to volunteer at the local homeless shelter. Each week we would go to the book club and read to the kids. After earning my Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting at the LDS Business College, I transferred to the University of Utah and got my Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, with a Health Emphasis, as well as a minor degree in Nutrition. During my undergrad, I performed research on diet changes in refugees in Salt Lake City, which was published by the University of Utah. Noticing how unprepared these people were for the harsh winters, I organized a winter clothing drive last year and again this year. I continue to be a Medical Assistant for the U of U Hospitals and Clinics, as well as volunteer with the Utah Refugee Center. For fun, I love to go camping, yoga, rock climbing, and spend time with my nieces and nephews. In the future, I plan to go back to school for a Master's degree, travel, work with refugees, and start a family with my husband, Doug. I am so grateful for the Miss America program for empowering women and encouraging us to do more for the community!
